This page is for those students who wish to opt-out (waive) out of the coverage under their school’s student insurance plan. The school’s student insurance plan can only be waived if the student has coverage under another acceptable insurance plan.

The first step to waive out of your school’s student insurance coverage is to verify that you are an eligible student.

Hard Waiver Student Eligibility

  • Full-time, Degree seeking, Undergraduate student
  • International Student (F1 and J1 Visa holders)


Are required to purchase this plan unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.

For those students who do not submit an approved waiver form before the deadline, you will be automatically charged and officially enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Once enrolled there are no refunds or cancellations. (Please note, automatic enrollment will occur AFTER the waiver deadline.)

You must enroll or waive the school-sponsored insurance plan each academic year. It is important for you to make an informed health assessment each year. Make sure you are not left without appropriate health coverage – it could hinder your academic progress. 

Please Note:  If you waive the insurance you will not be eligible to enroll until the following school year unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.

After you verify that you are a hard waiver student and have other insurance you will need:

  • Your current health insurance plan ID card,
  • Your health insurance brochure or plan description (or you might want mom & dad’s phone number handy to help answer some of the waiver questions). There might be a few questions about your current plan.


Once you have completed the waiver form, an email will automatically be sent to the email address you provided notifying you of the waiver request decision. If you receive a:

  • Approval e-mail– Your waiver was approved. You should print this e-mail and save it with your records.
  • Denial e-mail– Your waiver was denied. If you would like us to look this over or if you answered a question incorrectly, please contact us.


Please Note:  If you waive the insurance, you will not be eligible to enroll until the following school year, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.


Open Enrollment Periods

Open Enrollment Periods for all Dependents and Students: If you have eligible dependents in the Fall or are a student in the Fall semester and eligible to purchase coverage and you choose not to enroll for coverage before the Annual Enrollment Deadline of *September 16, 2016, you or your dependents will not be eligible to enroll again until the start of next Fall unless you experience a “Qualifying Life Event” during the year.

*For new dependents or new or renewing students in the Spring semester, your open enrollment deadline is January 29, 2017.


Qualifying Life Event

If you did not enroll during your open enrollment period and have since lost coverage under your original plan, you may qualify for a Qualifying Life Event upon providing proof of involuntary loss of coverage and payment within 30 days of losing coverage. (example: marriage, divorce, loss of job, etc) The enrollment form, check or money order, and the letter of creditable coverage must be received within 30 days of losing coverage.After 30 days the student will no longer be eligible to enroll in the plan until Fall of the following school year.

Visiting Scholars, EOF, PALS and Early Start Programs are required to purchase this insurance Plan, unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.

Waiver Deadlines:

  • Summer Enrollment Deadline: 6/30/16 (For full time undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits and full time graduate students taking 6 or more credits in the summer term and accepted into Rutgers in the Fall 2016 semester.)

You are required to have health insurance to attend Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. You must complete an on-line waiver or enroll in the University’s policy each semester.

Online only degree programs and non-matriculated students registered for online courses only do not fulfill the Eligibility requirements.




Ph.D and Ed.D Students

  • Ed.D students (taking only research credits)
  • Part-Time considered Full-Time by the student’s department

All full-time Postdoctoral Fellows and eligible dependents (at fellow’s expense) will need to complete a Health Insurance Enrollment form. Postdoctoral Fellows in a legacy UMDNJ position at Rutgers should submit the enrollment form to the RBHS Risk & Claims Office.

Postdoctoral Fellows in a Rutgers position should submit the completed application to their department.

New Brunswick Graduate Fellows

  • New Brunswick Graduate Fellows


Upon eligibility determination by the Graduate School Dean’s Office, you will be automatically enrolled in the Graduate Fellows plan by the Student Health Insurance Office. No Waiver Action required, UNLESS you are declining the Graduate Fellow Health Insurance.

If you are declining, then you must complete a waiver form for the Student Health Insurance Policy.

  • Annual/Fall Enrollment Deadline: Within 60 Days of Date of Hire

Less than full appointment Teaching and Graduate Assistants (TAs/GAs)

  • Less than full appointment Teaching and Graduate Assistants (TAs/GAs)


Upon eligibility determination will be automatically enrolled by Rutgers University Human Resources (UHR) in the Student Injury and Sickness Plan for less than full appointment Teaching and Graduate Assistants plan. No Waiver Action required. Once you are on payroll call UHR to ensure your enrollment.

  • Annual/Fall Enrollment Deadline: Within 60 Days of Date of Hire 

Full Appointment Teaching and Graduate Assistants (TAs/GAs)

You are not eligible to enroll in this plan (2015-202826-1). Full appointment TAs/GAs are eligible for the State Health Benefits plan and must contact UHR for enrollment. Visit http://uhr.rutgers.edu/teaching-assistants-graduate-assistants for more information.

HOWEVER, you are required to waive the student health insurance plan 2015-519-2 online by the posted deadline date. Please go back one page and select the Graduate/Medical School option and complete the online waiver form. Failure to waive online before the deadline will result in a non-refundable charge and students will be responsible for the premium even if you have other health insurance coverage. Are automatically enrolled in this insurance Plan at registration, unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.


Full Time Undergraduate and Full Time Graduate Students Waiver Instructions

Waiver Deadlines:

  • Fall Waiver Deadline: 9/14/16
  • Spring/Summer Waiver Deadline: 2/7/17(For new incoming students only) 


Once submitted, a confirmation email is sent to your The College of New Jersey email account immediately. Please note that it is your responsibility to save and print a copy of this email as proof of having had submitted the insurance information.


If you have not received a secure email from CISCO, then you did not complete the entire waiver and need to log back onto the site and complete it. Once completed, the screen will show if you have been approved or denied and the secure email will be sent to your school email address.


WAIVE NOW


For those students who do not submit an approved waiver form before the deadline, you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Injury and Sickness Plan. Once enrolled there are no refunds or cancellations. (Please note, automatic enrollment will occur AFTER the waiver deadline.)

  • Marriage/Civil Union
  • Divorce
  • Loss or change of Job
  • Expiration of Benefits


If you meet the requirements for a Qualifying Life Event, you will need to provide the following:

  • Proof of qualifying life event/proof of involuntary loss of coverage
  • Enrollment Form
  • Payment


All documents and payment must be received within 30 days of the qualifying life event. After 30 days, the student will no longer be eligible to enroll in the plan, until fall of the following school year.

Hard Waiver Student Eligibility

  • All TJU Matriculated Students

Are required to have health insurance and to complete the enrollment/waiver process for each academic year.*  If you have health insurance through another provider, it must meet the stated minimum requirements to qualify for a waiver.  If you do not have coverage through another provider that meets the minimum requirements, then you must enroll in the school-sponsored student health insurance plan.  


Once enrolled, the plan will be in effect for the entire academic year. You may only terminate the insurance coverage if you have a qualifying life change event.

Waiver Deadlines:

Deadline for Completion of 2015-16 Student Health Insurance Matriculation Requirement:  Noon on the Business Day Prior to the First Day of Class.


Once the open enrollment period has closed you and your dependents will not be eligible to enroll again during the academic year unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.
 


In order to complete the waiver, you will need the following:

  • Your Jefferson campus key
  • Your current health insurance plan ID card
  • Your health insurance brochure or plan description


Prior to beginning the waiver process please check to make sure that your insurance meets the 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.




After you verify that you are a hard waiver student and have other insurance you will need:


Once you have completed the waiver form, an email will automatically be sent to the email address you provided notifying you of the waiver request decision. If you receive a:

  • Approval e-mail– Your waiver was approved. You should print this e-mail and save it with your records.
  • Denial e-mail– Your waiver was denied. If you would like us to look this over or if you answered a question incorrectly, please contact us.


Please Note
:  If you waive the insurance, you will not be eligible to enroll until the following school year, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.


Open Enrollment Periods

Open Enrollment Periods for all Dependents and Students: If you have eligible dependents in the Fall or are a student in the Fall semester and eligible to purchase coverage and you choose not to enroll for coverage before the Annual Enrollment Deadline. You or your dependents will not be eligible to enroll again until the start of next Fall unless you experience a “Qualifying Life Event” during the year.


Qualifying Life Event

If you did not enroll during your open enrollment period and have since lost coverage under your original plan, you may qualify for a Qualifying Life Event upon providing proof of involuntary loss of coverage and payment within 30 days of losing coverage. (example: marriage, divorce, loss of job, etc) The enrollment form, check or money order, and the letter of creditable coverage must be received within 30 days of losing coverage.After 30 days the student will no longer be eligible to enroll in the plan until Fall of the following school year.

Waive Your Schools Insurance – Rowan University – Cooper Medical School


Welcome to the Waive Your School’s Insurance Center!

This page is for those students who wish to opt-out (waive) out of the coverage under their school’s student insurance plan. The school’s student insurance plan can only be waived if the student has coverage under another acceptable insurance plan.

The first step to waive out of your school’s student insurance coverage is to verify that you are an eligible student.


2016-2017 Waiver Information



Hard Waiver Student Eligibility

    • Full-time medical students


Are automatically enrolled in this insurance plan unless proof of comparable coverage is furnished.

For those students who do not submit an approved waiver form before the deadline, you will be automatically charged and officially enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Once enrolled there are no refunds or cancellations. (Please note, automatic enrollment will occur AFTER the waiver deadline.)

Please Note:  If you waive the insurance you will not be eligible to enroll until the following school year unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.


Hard Waiver Student Waiver Instructions

Waiver Deadlines:
